How to sing better, step by step

To sing better, stand tall and relaxed, breathe low into the ribs, warm up for 10 minutes, practise pitch matching daily, and record yourself. A coach speeds this up by spotting habits you cannot hear.

Start with posture and breath

Feet hip-width apart, knees soft, shoulders down. Breathe in quietly so the ribs and belly expand, then let the air out slowly while singing.

Train your ear and pitch

Play a note on a piano app, hum it, then sing it on "ah". Start with single notes, then short five-note scales.

Practise a little every day

Ten to fifteen focused minutes daily beats one long session a week. Warm up, sing a scale, then sing a song you enjoy.

Record and listen back

Your voice sounds different from the inside. Short phone recordings show exactly where pitch, tone or diction slip.

Questions

Can I learn to sing on my own?
